LONG WAY TO CITY. PROBLEM OF STUDY OF SOVIET CITY PLANNING IN 1950 — EARLY 1980’s

The main directions of research of understudied period of Soviet city planning — after the transition to the industrial building in the middle of 1950s and early 1980s are outlined. There are expressed concerns about the particular researcher’s dualposition in relation to this material — as a “party” and as a “historian”. Certain qualitative advances in the understanding of the city are identified, coinciding with the turn of the decade. There are described the ideas put forward in connection with the search for the new concept in the framework of the study period.
