Characteristics and problems of reconstructive work in St. Petersburg in 1910s are reviewed. Out-of-the-way bits of information on the development of project proposals are presented and the obstacles to their implementation are defined. Important and challenging ideas of Russian architects L.N. Benois and F.E. Yenakiev to negotiation transportation and housing problems of the capital city, the reconstruction of its center: the creation of alternates city mains, union station, punching new avenues, expanding cargo port, construction of new bridges, laying of subway lines - are set out.
