Main stylistic stages of city square development and architecture-and-landscape techniques as a norm of their aesthetic expressiveness

The historical periods of style development in the city sguares of the West and modern architectural landscape characteristics of the open city spaces are disdosed in the article. The main concept of the city sguare and the definition of the modern city sguare are presented. The author shows the basic architectural landscape methods influencing the aesthetics and the function of the city sguares. There have been given some examples of the European city sguares, which are described and compared with the basic architectural landscape methods. Also, there have been presented the main ways of improvement of the surroundings in the city sguares with the help of landscape design. There has been given a definition of the landscape design concept in the context of the improvement of surrounding in the city sgares.
