This research focuses on the implementation of the architectural and planning design principles of energy-efficient buildings in the traditional dwelling in the North of Russia — chum, yaranga, igloo, North Russian hut. The comparative evaluation of compactness indicators of these types of dwelling is performed. The structure of the internal space of these types of dwelling based on the implementation of the thermal zoning principle is described. The comparison to the modern energy saving requirements is performed.
