Two approaches to the determination of the orientation angle of the most probable shift area at soil mass are considered. It is concluded that there is a need in conducting of this operation based on the analysis of the stress-strain state of the soil. Based on this conclusion, the authors carried out the analysis of the formation and development of the plastic deformation areas in a coherent basis of continuous footing of subsurface. It was determined that this process is gradual and each stage is characterized by one of the critical loads.
